SiamAroi is a hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant from Chef Nun and his wife Passon, who are originally from Pattaya in Thailand. They moved to the Philippines because of their son Kris who is studying in Manila to become a doctor.
Siam is the old name of Thailand and Aroi means “yummy” in Thai.
Most people who have been to SiamAroi like how authentic the food tastes and the quirkiness of the ambiance.
Visited with Rache on one of our Thurs-dates and here’s what we think…

The place is hidden along Jupiter avenue and you have to pass through this short alley to find it.
The place has a street kitchen ambiance integrated into it with a Thai Sari-Sari store.
My wife loves the Thai Tamarind candies, but it’s confusing which brand to choose. I do hope they can include a taste test of the products.

The menu is extensive, but we like to stick to our Thai comfort food favorites.
Pad Thai (P220 +10% service charge). Thai fried noodle with shrimp.
The Pad Thai has a balanced taste of sweet, tangy, salty, and spicy flavors. We like it except for the shrimp, which has a lansa taste.
★ Tom Yum Kung (P310 +10% service charge). Spicy and sour soup with shrimps.
Never had Tom Yum soup this good for a while. I like the right spicy kick and balanced sourness.
★ Khoo Kluk Kapi (P270 +10% service charge). Fried rice shrimp paste, sweet pork, green mango.
The Bagoong Rice is good with sweetness from the pork balanced with the sourness of the green mango and saltiness from the bagoong. The chili is super hot so suggest you separate it before mixing.
Since dishes are prepared by the couple themselves based on the order they received it, you’ll have time to shop around the place.
Order Thai beer to pair with the food to complete the authentic Thai dining experience.
As long as Chef Nun is in the kitchen, you can be assured that the food that comes out would be close to authentic.
★ Green Chicken Curry with Rice (P240 +10% service charge)
Our favorite among all the dishes we ordered because of the curry sauce. 🙂
Khor Moo Yaang (P300 +10% service charge). Roast pork neck with special sauce.
This is the SiamAroi’s specialty, but the meat has a funny aftertaste. They need to find a better source for their meats.
The always smiling Passon (pronounced as pass-on) served our papaya salad. It’s a great vegetarian dish option.
★ Papaya Salad Crispy Pork (P280 +10% service charge)
We like our salad healthy with just a bit of pork. It’s pleasant to eat but we wished it had arrived first.
Thai Milk Tea (P139 +10% service charge) and Thai hale blue boy milk (P139 +10% service charge)
Not as good as I was expecting it to be. The hale blue boy is just milk mixed with hale syrup. Skip this.
★ Yum pak bung grop. Crispy morning glory with pork and shrimp spicy salad.
Passon gave us a complimentary dish which is the latest dish they are promoting in the resto.
It’s like crispy kangkong fries topped with minced pork, shrimp, onions, chilies, and greens. So good!
It’s been a long while since I’ve tasted home-cooked Thai food goodness in Manila ever since Dek A closed down.
The ambiance is eclectic, reminding you of the kind of places foodies hunt down and discover.
I like the balance of flavors in their dishes. The food is not too sweet and they are unapologetic about the chili. I do hope they get better suppliers of shrimp and pork neck meat though.
Order the Papaya Salad or Kangkong fries as an appetizer and the Tom Yum Kung to start with. You can’t go wrong with the Bagoong Rice, Pad Thai, and Green Chicken Curry as your main course. Be adventurous and order one new dish to try.
Budget about P500/head. It’s best to go in a group of 4-5 so that you can taste more dishes.
It’s a good place to celebrate with friends and enjoy good, affordable Thai food. Make sure to make a reservation if you are going with a big group.
