The Grand Kitchen is the all-day dining buffet of Grand Hyatt that’s set up with a grand show kitchen in the middle and cozy living areas around it. It’s like eating at a chef’s table from any angle.

Make sure to go for food that’s freshly cooked upon order, otherwise some of the food are just left out on the buffet to dry or lose their crisp. I would recommend going for the cross-over Sunday Brunch with The Cellar and the signature Meatless Monday buffet.

It’s quite intimidating to try it at first because of how grand the set-up and selections are, so here’s a guide on how to navigate the Grand Kitchen…

First Things First

The Grand Kitchen welcomes you openly, without any gates or doors. The minimalist high ceiling ambiance can be intimidating, as if you’re stepping into a kitchen in a mansion.

There are two center kitchens with hot and cold sections and the buffet is served on all sides. Walk around first to know where to attack.

The Grand Buffet

The best part are the grilled pampano, crabs in steamed ginger n’ garlic, mussels in garlic butter and grilled squid in herb butter.

Ask for fresh slices of tuna and salmon sashimi for your Japanese appetizers.

Go for Hainanese chicken and char siu for your Singaporean craving fix.

Our favorite in the dim sum section was the pork ribs in tausi sauce (don’t waste calories on the rest).

The skewer section is the best with different condiments and sauces.

We went for the pork and beef bbq. Make sure these are freshly cooked and not overcooked.

For plant-based eaters, go for the grilled eggplant, cucumber and mushrooms that tasted sweet, crunchy and juicy when grilled.

Order your freshly grilled sausages, barbecue chicken and other meats that rotate throughout the week.

Meatless Mondays

You got to try the Beyond Meat burgers and sausages which are part of the buffet on Meatless Mondays or you can order from the Beyond Meat A la Carte menu on other days.

Burger
Burger (₱750). Plant-based burger patty, dairy-free cheese, pickles, red onion, a plant-based mayonnaise, dairy-free bun

The beyond meat burger is a plant-based alternative that tastes like real meat with its textures and is served with its plant-based tomato sauce.

We were really surprised that it tasted like the real thing and that vegetarian food could be this good.

This was the highlight of our Grand Kitchen experience. But beware! Each burger was quite filling that you could lose your appetite for the rest of the buffet.

Aside from Beyond Meat selections, one side of the buffet is devoted to meatless dishes to cater to vegan, vegetarian and plant-based preferences starting with the appetizers.

We loved the section on Indian food with different curry dishes paired with papadum or biryani rice.

There is a limited selection of cheeses for appetizer or pre-dessert.

Fresh organic vegetable salads, with different ingredients and sauces, are readily available .

Sunday Brunch at 8th Avenue

On Sundays, there’s an extensive selection of meat carvings and festive meat dishes starting with the honey glazed ham and meat loaf.

A roasted turkey is served if you prefer leaner meat and to feel the Thanksgiving spirit with your friends and family.

A Filipino celebration is never complete without lechon to commemorate the occasion.

The best part of the Sunday Brunch is the cross over to The Cellar with unlimited wines and draft beer that you can order from the a la carte menu or you can just literally go to The Cellar.

Jamon Iberico and Cheese Croqueta
Jamon Iberico and Cheese Croqueta. Tomato chutney

Make sure to order this pillowy soft croqueta right away as you sit down for your appetizer.

Mushroom Risotto
Mushroom Risotto. Parmesan cheese

Our favorite was the mushroom risotto with truffle flavors, a bit of parmesan and mushroom.

Pork Belly
Pork Belly. Apple sauce, mango salsa, liver sauce.

I loved the way the Spanish cook their pork belly with crispy skin and 3 different sauces.

Dessert

Our go-to dessert would be churros served with soft serve ice cream.

We also liked the made-to-order waffle with our choice of filling.

There’s also a good selection of Filipino desserts, pastries and chocolates to satisfy any dessert cravings.

Loved the fresh selection of juices, including calamansi juice, which you can drink in between bites to clean the palate.

We love sparkling and premium water these days, and you can order these as add-on drinks to your buffet.

Final Thoughts

Overall, we highly recommend the Beyond Meat on Meatless Mondays and Sunday Crossover Brunch. Go for the freshly grilled or the cooked upon order for the hot dishes because otherwise, some of the dishes were dry and not as good.

If I were to go back, I would go for the grilled pampano, seafood and the skewered meats; order the croqueta and mushroom risotto from The Cellar immediately for Sunday Brunch; and order Beyond Meat even a la carte for the family to try and taste what’s the buzz about this meatless alternative.

Disclosure: We were media guests of Grand Hyatt Manila.  I wrote this article with my biases, opinions and insights.

P.S. I do hope Grand Kitchen would have more kid interactive activities during Sunday Brunch and the chefs would look happier when cooking and serving the food.
