MOR THAI: Still the Best Authentic Thai Restaurant in Manila!

Mor Thai is an authentic Thai restaurant in Manila that specializes in hot pot and home-cooked Thai dishes. The restaurant is owned by Chef Nun and Krisanat Boonsriphaprasong, who are from the same Thai family that brought us Siam Aroi. Mor Thai was originally a hole-in-the-wall restaurant along Jupiter Street, but it has since moved to a larger location at the MET LIVE mall. The restaurant is known for its hot pot dishes, which are served on brass pots (also known as golden hot pot).

They serve the best and most authentic Thai dishes and hospitality among all Thai SELECT restaurants in Manila.

ABOUT MOR THAI

Despite being located on the second floor of a mall, the moment you step inside, you are transported to an inviting home in Thailand with its design aesthetic and quirkiness.

You’ll get lost in the authentic Thai sari-sari store that is filled with all the goodies you would usually bring home from Thailand as pasalubong. Make sure to stock up on your favorite Thai snacks and ingredients so you can satisfy your Thai food cravings at home.

Of all the Thai restaurants we’ve tried, they are the only ones that pay homage to Thai royalty, which creates a genuine dining experience.

About Thai SELECT

The Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, the Royal Thai Government has launched the “Thai SELECT” program to certify and promote authentic Thai cuisine around the world.

It is a seal of approval granted to Thai restaurants (both overseas and local Thai restaurants that serve authentic Thai food) and processed Thai food products.

The objective is to create the recognition of quality Thai restaurants and processed Thai food products as well as to encourage Thai restaurateurs and food producers to raise their quality while maintaining authenticity.

AUTHENTIC THAI FOOD

TOONG TONG THORD (₱350)

These crispy-fried dumplings were so good! They were filled with flavorful meat, and I dipped the golden money bags for good luck.

I love their Thai drinks, which are served in big bottles that you can share or enjoy all by yourself.

THORD KA TIAM (₱630)
Garlic with mild pork & squid

To whet your appetite, try the pork and squid stir-fry with a mild spice and hints of garlic.

RED CURRY DUCK (₱890)
PHA NAENG

I love the complex flavors of duck meat in the curry sauce, which gives it a unique dimension compared to other meat curries. Sauce pa lang ulam na.

PHAD THAI (₱450)
Thai fried noodle with shrimp

You’ll love how the noodles are fried until they are glistening and still al dente, and then they are served already mixed with the different ingredients and topped with fried shrimp.

KHAO KLUK KAPI (₱470)
Fried rice with shrimp paste

The side ingredients are quite generous and best to mix it all together with a touch of lime.

NOODLE WITH CURRIED SOUP

The fried vermicelli noodles are served with the curry, and it is best to eat them while they are still crunchy so that they can absorb some of the sauce.

This restaurant is best enjoyed family-style, as the dishes are meant to be shared. The warm and inviting atmosphere will make you feel like you’re dining in a Thai home.

SWEET STICKY RICE WITH MANGO (₱290)
Khao Niaw Ma-Muang

The dish has a good balance of cream, pandan-flavored rice, and mango. Be sure to try the Thai mangoes, which are different from our local mangoes.

Durian lovers, this is the best! Durian served in a bowl of sweet sticky rice and coconut cream is a must-try.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, Mor Thai is our top pick for the best authentic Thai restaurant in Manila among all the Thai SELECT-awarded restaurants.

We love their hot pot dishes like Tom Yum, Tom Kha Gai, and Khao Soi; their Thai curries like Massaman, Green, Red, and Yellow curries; their Thai snacks; and our new favorite dessert, sweet sticky rice with durian. They do the Thai classic dishes well, with a homemade Thai feel. You’ll also love their Thai sari-sari store to complete your Thai shopping experience. Congratulations!
