Mor Thai is an authentic Thai Restaurant by Chef Nun and Krisanat Boonsriphaprasong specializing on Hot Pot and homecooked Thai recipes from the same Thai family that brought us Siam Aroi. From their hole-in-the-wall beginnings along Jupiter, they are now located at the MET LIVE mall with hot pot dishes served on brass (Golden Hot Pot) as their specialty. They recently got awarded with the Thai SELECT seal of authenticity last February 2022.

Here are some tips on what to order on your next Thai food cravings.

The restaurant has a modern Thai hawker ambiance. You can already smell the herbs and spices used to whet your appetite the moment you enter.

About Thai SELECT
The Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, the Royal Thai Government has launched the “Thai SELECT” program to certify and promote authentic Thai cuisine around the world.

It is a seal of approval granted to Thai restaurants (both overseas and local Thai restaurants that serve authentic Thai food) and processed Thai food products.

The objective is to create the recognition of quality Thai restaurants and processed Thai food products as well as to encourage Thai restaurateurs and food producers to raise their quality while maintaining authenticity.

Congratulations to Chef Nun and son Kris, who is studying medicine in Manila, for a successful Mor Thai concept.

THAI SPECIALTIES

Fish Cake Sticks (₱150)

These sweet BBQ marinated fish cakes sticks were light to start with but very addicting.

Tom Kha Gai (₱690). Thai Coconut Milk Soup with Chicken (small for 2 pax)

I was drooling over this soup while we were waiting patiently for the others to finish taking photos.

The soup had an elegant coconut creamy feel, not too sweet. You could taste the balance of Thai flavors and spices. Make sure to savor each spoonful. Sobrang sarap!

The hotpot is served in an expensive brass (golden hot pot) container because it intensifies the flavor of the soup without contaminants from the cooking vessel. Also, the ingredients and soup do not stick to the walls, making sure the dish is presented well and enjoyable to eat.

Volcano Shrimp (₱2,900 1kg of Shrimp) Goong Pork Khao Fat

One of the signature dishes is the Volcano jumbo shrimp served wrapped in foil and flambeed table-side for that instagrammable reel and a burnt smoky finish.

It was fun to eat the head. You could easily remove the skin and dip it in the chilli Thai sauce.

(Note: Make sure not to overcook the shrimp.)

Phad Thai (₱450). Thai fried noodle with shrimp

This made me remember how really good pad thai tastes like—with balanced flavors of spicy, sweet, sour and salty. Also, even if it gets cold, the pasta does not stick to each other.

Chicken Pandan (₱450). Gai Hor Bai Toey

The chicken was fried just right with a crunchy outside but not overcooked. It also absorbed the flavors of the pandan.

Grilled Pork Neck with Special Sauce (₱650). Khor Moo Yaang

Deadly with a tender layer of meat and good layer of fat dipped in its special sauce. Yum!

Pineapple Fried Rice (₱570). Khao Phad Sapparod

Order their pineapple rice which paired well with the chilli spices and the meats. It was not too sweet with chunks of meat you could taste. Eat it with the fried shrimp. Kanin pa lang ulam na.

Thai Milk Tea (₱169). Cha Nom Yen

The Thai milk tea was addictingly good, with a good balance of sweetness. It was very milky but you could still taste the tea. We tried to do this at home, and it was hard to get this consistency.

Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango (₱290). Khao Niaw Ma-Muang

Classic Thai dessert of pandan sticky rice with sweet mango slices and coconut cream.

Thai Coconut Pudding (₱200). TA-KO

Remember the Ta-Ko coconut pudding that’s usually served on small cups? You can now enjoy it in a big cup with chunks of ube. The best. 🙂

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, everyone enjoyed all the Mor Thai dishes, most of which were wiped out, in fact.

We loved the Tom Kha Gai (Thai Coconut Milk Soup), Phad Thai, Pandan Chicken and Pineapple Fried Rice and their specialty, the Volcano Shrimps. For dessert, get the Thai Milk Tea and Ta-Ko. Budget about ₱500/head+. The Volcano Shrimp is best enjoyed with a bigger group.

Most of the people who visited Mor Thai rave about it as the best Thai Restaurant in Manila because of its authenticity, affordability and that bring-me-back-to-Thailand moment.

Congratulations to Chef Nun and family for an awesome Mor Thai concept!

P.S. There’s no toilet inside the store so you have to walk to the nearest mall restroom. Also, parking is still FREE at MET Life which a plus when visiting Mor Thai.
