SILVER GARDEN: How to Order for a Lauriat Celebration? (A Review)

Silver Garden Seafood Restaurant is a premium Chinese restaurant tucked away in the basement of Somerset Dowell Tower Residences. It’s quickly becoming the talk of the town—an exciting new destination especially for diners who’ve already tried every standout Chinese restaurant in the city and are looking for something fresh yet refined. We held our board meeting Christmas lauriat celebration here, and everyone couldn’t stop raving about the food—it was that good.

We recommend Silver Garden, and to help you make the most of your visit, here are our dish recommendations and how best to order:

SILVER GARDEN SEAFOOD RESTAURANT

The restaurant is located in the basement, so you won’t see a street-level façade—only the Somerset Dowell Tower Residences from the outside. Parking is available on the 3rd floor, accessible via San Agustin Street. There’s no mobile signal underground, but you can request Wi-Fi access from the hotel.

Make sure to book a VIP room and opt for a lauriat table for the full experience.

Our only complaint is the lazy Susan—it’s surprisingly small, so you often have to stand up just to reach the dishes. It’s a bit of a hassle and defeats the purpose of having a lazy Susan in the first place, where everything should be easily accessible with a simple turn.

HOW TO ORDER A LAURIAT

First question: Peking duck or not?
Yes—definitely order it. Their roasted Peking duck is excellent, with crispy, fatty skin and flavorful meat. At ₱3,400 for a two-way serving, it works out to just ₱340 per head for 10 pax, making it a solid value for a lauriat celebration.

What is a Lauriat?
A lauriat is a traditional Chinese banquet-style set menu. A proper lauriat consists of 8 courses (dessert not included), typically including an appetizer, a soup, a variety of proteins like duck, beef, and fish, and at least one vegetable dish.

Silver Garden’s recommended set menus can be pricey and restrictive—you don’t get to pick everything you want. For our board Christmas celebration, our bill came out to ₱2,200 per person for 10 people, including drinks and dim sum.

STEAMED SHRIMP DUMPLING “HAKAO” (₱280/ 4 pcs.)
PORK SOUP DUMPLING “XIAO LONG BAO” (₱250/ 4 pcs.)
SHRIMP & PORK MUSHROOM DUMPLING “SIOMAI” (₱250/ 4 pcs.)

At most high-end Chinese restaurants, you usually can’t order dim sum during dinner. But at Silver Garden, the dim sum makes for a far better appetizer than the usual cold cuts.

The hakao and siomai easily passed the scrutiny of our Chinese friends—which means the unlimited yum cha must be excellent. It’s also perfect to nibble on while waiting for guests stuck in traffic or hunting for parking in the Salcedo area.

Their signature Lychee Ginger Oolong Tea with chia seeds is often recommended by the waiters—and it’s quite good. But we don’t suggest ordering it before your lauriat, as the chia seeds expand and can bloat your tummy—or worse, give you a tummy ache afterward.

PEKING DUCK 2 WAYS (₱3,400)

The Peking Duck is delicious on its own—no need for extra gold leaf or a dramatic tableside flame. The crisp, fatty skin is best enjoyed straight from the sliced duck.

ROASTED DUCK (1st Way)

The duck is usually served wrapped, but we loved that Silver Garden deconstructs it for you—the sliced lean meat topped with the crispy skin. You can assemble your own pancake wrap, add hoisin sauce, and even spice it up with chili garlic or XO sauce.

DICE WINTERMELON W/ ASSORTED SEAFOOD SOUP (₱1,400/ Large)

We like our soup clean and flavorful, highlighting the seafood with a few diced winter melon to refresh the palate—something hot to gently wake up your tummy and prepare it for the feast ahead.

CURRY BEEF BELLY IN POT (₱1,600/ Large)

This is the lauriat’s standout dish—super tender beef belly in a rich, umami-reduced curry sauce, served in a pot to stay warm throughout the meal. It’s not your usual dish—it’s uniquely Silver Garden—and absolutely delicious with garlic rice or their Richman fried rice. Order this!

RICHMAN FRIED RICE (₱1,500/ Large)

We ordered one large garlic rice, but it wasn’t enough—by the time the extra rice arrived, nabitin na. It’s best to just order two rice sets at the start. We recommend the Richman fried rice comes topped with fried scallops, adding extra crisp and umami to the meal.

STEAMED GROUPER W/ SPECIAL SOY SAUCE 800g (₱3,000/ KG)

For seafood, you could go for their Suahe or crabs, but we opted for the steamed lapu-lapu. It’s a healthier, cleaner-tasting option that balances the richness of the other dishes. You can also ask them to debone it, making it easier to enjoy the fish along with its special soy sauce.

FRIED TARO SCALLOP PIE (₱3,500/ Large)

We tried one dish from the chef’s specials—the fried taro with scallops—and it did not disappoint. The outside is perfectly crunchy, while the inside is creamy and hot, studded with bits of scallop. The presentation is lovely in the center, though we’re not quite sure why it’s called a “pie.”

BRAISED BLACK MUSHROOM W/ ABALONE SAUCE (₱1,250/ Large)

For something special, your vegetables are served with black mushroom and slices of abalone.

MINCED DUCK (2nd Way)

By the time the minced duck arrived, we were already a bit full—but it’s perfect for taking home and enjoying later. While we often like salt-and-pepper duck as a second preparation, this minced duck is a healthier and more universally appealing option.

SALTY EGG CUSTARD BUNS (₱220/ 3 pcs.)

For dessert, it’s best to order a variety to sample everything, but the custard buns with their oozing salted egg center are a must—they perfectly satisfy that sweet-and-salty craving.

MANGO SAGO POMELO (₱220/ 3 pcs.)

The mango sago pomelo and the hot taro soup, however, were underwhelming and didn’t quite satisfy.

DEEP-FRIED SESAME BALL (₱150/ 3 pcs.)

A good buchi is always the perfect ending to a satisfying lauriat celebration!

FINAL THOUGHTS

We highly recommend Silver Garden Seafood Restaurant for your next lauriat celebration in Makati—it’s a cut above the typical hotel or mall options in Makati. The VIP rooms are on the mezzanine, so try to book one with a window overlooking the restaurant for the best experience. The staff were very helpful while we were ordering, but make sure to place all orders ahead of time since the kitchen closes at 9 PM.

For a DIY lauriat, budget around ₱2,000 per person. Don’t miss the curry beef belly in a hot pot paired with Richman fried rice, the 2-way roasted Peking duck, and dim sum for appetizers. We hope they improve the lazy susan design and offer better dessert options, but overall, it’s a memorable feast worth experiencing.

Congratulations to the owner and the entire team behind Silver Garden Seafood Restaurant!
