CREATE TRIPS: Planning My Tokyo Trip with @CreateTrips Mobile TravelBook (A Review)

CREATETRIPS is a mobile travel planning guide app where you can get well-curated TravelBooks and insiders tips from local food and travel experts around the world.

It was very helpful during our recent family trip to Tokyo because it provided awesome advice on the best places to go to Tokyo vs. online sites or review sites like TripAdvisor.

It convinced us to visit the Tokyo Sky Tree with the kids, the tallest tower in the world vs. going to Tokyo Tower. We skipped joining the guided Tokyo tours and choose the places that our family will enjoy.

Here are what I like and don’t like about the app:

#1: Create your own Trip Bucketlist from Downloaded Expert TravelBooks

What’s Awesome:

  • You can download the TOKYO: The Repeatable Spots TravelBook ($5.99) and save the places you want to visit in your My Trips section TOKYO: King of Tokyo.
  • The Tokyo guide is the most expensive TravelBook but most of the guidebooks are free to $2.

What I don’t like:

  • You can only download the TravelBook in one device at a time. So if already downloaded the travel book in your iPad, you have to pay another fee to download it in your iPhone.

#2: The Travel Book structure is simple — Top Level Venue List Categories and then the Venues itself.

What’s Awesome:

  • The venue list is curated by a travel expert, so you get the best insider’s recommendations only.
  • It is easier to consume the information gives on a definitive advice on where to go.

What I don’t like:

  • It’s very hard to navigate on a smaller screen of an iPhone. You can scroll up and down, but I do hope they provide a swipe left and right option for easy navigation.

#3. Short and Sweet Travel Tips!

What’s Awesome:

  • The descriptions are short, sweet and conversational.
  • You can have more photos per venue to provide a sense of place.

What I don’t like:

  • The text portions are very small. Hope they provide more text formatting options to be able to read it easily.

#4 Accurate Maps Online and Offline!

What’s Awesome:

  • You would know what are the awesome places around the area you are going to, and you can easily plan your itinerary for that area.
  • The points of interest locations are accurate and it will guide you where to go exactly.

What I don’t like:

  • There’s an additional fee to download the offline map and sometimes it’s a bit heavy that it crashes the app.
