NARA THAI Manila: Authentic Thai SELECT Restaurant in Megamall

Nara Thai, a Bangkok-based restaurant that was voted the city’s best in 2003, has a Manila branch that is certified with a Thai SELECT seal from the Royal Thai embassy. The restaurant’s name is a tribute to one of its founders, Narawadee Srikarnchana. The Philippine franchise was launched in 2018 by Filipina entrepreneur Sheila Romero, and it continues to offer authentic Thai cuisine with time-tested recipes and new innovations..

ABOUT THAI SELECT

The Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, the Royal Thai Government has launched the “Thai SELECT” program to certify and promote authentic Thai cuisine around the world.

It is a seal of approval granted to Thai restaurants (both overseas and local Thai restaurants that serve authentic Thai food) and processed Thai food products.

The objective is to give recognition to quality Thai restaurants and processed Thai food products as well as to encourage Thai restaurateurs and food producers to raise their quality while maintaining authenticity.

AUTHENTIC THAI FOOD

APPETIZER

Roti Kae (₱255)
Roti with Massaman Curry Sauce

Have a piece of this warm roti, dip it into the richness of the massaman curry sauce, and savor the taste of the curry with shrimp paste, lemongrass, galangal, and coriander. You will keep wanting more.

Yum Phak Khom (₱285)
Fried Spinach Leaves served with Minced Pork & Chili Lime Dip

Fancy meeting you here, fried spinach! Nara Thai’s fresh take on this classic dish features minced pork and a chili lime dip instead of my usual mayonnaise sauce. It’s crispy and delicate.

Plamuk Tord (₱440).
Fried Squid with Plum and Chili Lime Sauce

The sweetness of the plum sauce and the sourness of the chili lime sauce, which is not too spicy, make a nice combination for enjoying the fried squid.

Goong Kabeuang (₱570)
Crispy Prawn Pancake

One of my favorite dishes is the shrimp pancake because it has real pieces of cut shrimp and a very shrimpy flavor.

Gai Satay (₱325). Chicken Satay

Tender and flavorful chicken satay that is always reliable.

Nara Thai Milk Tea (₱185)

Must and always order. Let the ice melt a little bit if you want less sweet.

SOUP

Tom Yum Goong (₱480)
River Prawns in Spicy Lemongrass and Lime Soup

Always order Tom Yum Goong – it never fails to remind me why I love Thai cuisine. The fragrant, sweet and sour soup with a hint of spice is perfect, and I love the river prawns and oyster mushrooms.

Kuay Tiew Rua Nua Moo (₱470)
Ayuthaya Beef Boat Noodle Soup

Not fond of Tom Yum Goong? Here’s another flavorful soup. Slurp your way through it and enjoy the beefy taste of the soup and the thinly sliced beef with the slippery noodles.

CURRY

Kang Kiew Wan Nuea (₱650)
Green Curry Beef

My favorite dish too! Get ready with a bowl of steaming rice. Add a spoonful of the sauce to your rice and mix it well. Enjoy the chunks of tender, soft beef and the flavorful sauce. I can finish this dish with two bowls of rice if I’m left alone. Satisfaction achieved!

Phu Phad Pong Karee (₱950)
Crab Meat Yellow Curry

I love crab, and this is another favorite of mine! The crab meat is generous, but it is sometimes drowned out by the yellow curry. However, I still enjoy eating this dish because of the overall flavor.

RICE

Khao Phad Kapi ₱295. Bagoong Rice

The smell of bagoong when mixing tiny shrimps, shallots, peanuts, mango, and egg slices into rice and squeezing lime always gives my tummy a signal that it’s time to dig in. I can also eat this dish alone because it is tasty with bagoong, meat, fruit, and egg slices.

DESSERT

Tub Tim Krob (₱225).
Water Chestnut in Coconut Milk and Crushed Ice

This dessert is definitely for sharing! Better to mix like your all-time favorite halo halo and be surprised on what you get! Very light and refreshing. Love that coconut milk is used here.

Khao New Ma Muang (₱315)
Mango and Sticky Rice with Coconut Milk

Your favorite Thai dessert presented like a mango flower in a glass.

Tako (Khanom Tako Sakoo) (₱345)

Tako (Khanom Tako Sakoo) is a Thai dessert made with rice flour, mung bean flour, and coconut milk. An all time favorite.

Bua Loy (₱295)
Coconut Milk Rice Dumplings with Salted Egg

Bua Loy is a cross of our ginataang bilo-bilo and halo-halo, which is made with rice dumplings, salted egg, and creamy coconut milk
